About

With over 750,000 books the Kindle is the ultimate book reading experience on any device. Its pretty self explanatory. When you open the app, you enter your email and a password to register the Kindle and you begin downloading. In previous versions I seem to remember a Store link being available directly in the app for downloading books but this appears to be no more. Its easy though, just go to Amazon and look for your favourite book. Providing it has a Kindle version (which most do) you can download it to your account, refresh the app and the book will begin downloading.

Positives

The App is available across the board, Mac, iPhone, iPad, the lot. So if you’re in the office – you can read your book. If you’re on the train – you can read your book. Its an ideal app for the readers out there. Free samples are always a positive, especially when it comes to books, meaning you’re not going to waste money on a book you don’t like. The background colour, font size can be tailored to your needs. Books can even be read in portrait or landscape.

Negatives

Only a few here. I’ve found the page turning effects in the recent version to be a little jumpy at times, this isn’t a major issue but could get annoying in time. Also the lack of the in app Amazon store is a little annoying, I’m sure it was removed for a good reason though…

Final Verdict

If you’re a reader and iBooks does nothing for you then Amazon Kindle is definitely the app for you. As I said, multi-platform and thousands of books readily available in the palm of your hand. Perfect if you love books and get through a lot in a week. Don’t be put off by the lack of “store” in the app though, this is easily accessed through your browser, I just felt it would have bumped up the score a little if it was in the app as it was previously.
